The History of the Matron Stakes

Formerly known as the Gilltown Stud Stakes, the Matron Stakes is a race run every year at the Leopardstown Racecourse in Dublin, Ireland. A premier race in the Irish Champions Weekend, the winner earns an automatic bid to compete in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf as part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series.
