The History of the Pocahontas Stakes

First run on Thanksgiving Day in 1969 at the legendary Churchill Downs, the Pocahontas Stakes was aptly named for the Native-American woman who aided early American settlers. In 2013 the race was added to the Breeders’ Cup Challenger Series, granting the winner a place in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.
