How to Play Roulette

Learning how to play roulette is very simple at BetAmerica Roulette. The game begins by having players place their bets as they see fit. The dealer will then spin the ball, and players can continue to place bets until the dealer indicates “No More Bets”. Once the ball has landed, the dealer will pay out winning bets and rake all other bets to the house.

There are a variety of bets that you can make that fall under two categories: inside bets and outside bets. Where you place the bet on the roulette table is important to understanding how the game works as players will place wagers in open spaces and on the grid lines in order to generate different bets.

Types of Roulette Bets

INSIDE BETS

These bets pay out the most and are made by wagering on specific numbers.

Straight Up – Betting on a specific number has the highest payout of any bet in roulette with 35-to-1 odds.

Split Bet – A single wager on two numbers that is made by placing the wager on the line that borders both. Only adjacent numbers on the table can be split. This bet has the second highest payout with 17-to-1 odds.

Street Bet – This is a single bet on the entire row or line of numbers performed by placing the wager on first number of the desired row, using the vertical line between the inside and outside areas. Street bets are also known as line bets and row bets, and pay out 11-to-1.

Quad Bet – Similar to a split bet, but the wager is instead placed on the shared corner of four numbers. Also known as corner betting, this pays out 8-to-1.

OUTSIDE BETS

Outside bets refer to any bets that fall outside the numbered grid. They offer a lower payout but have a better chance of coming through.

Basket Bet – In roulette, “the basket” is the range of numbers that includes 00, 0, 1, 2 and 3. This allows you to play all five of these numbers at once and pays 6-to-1.

Double Street Bet Similar to a street bet, except that you play two rows of numbers by placing a single bet on the vertical line that splits the inside and outside of the roulette grid and the line that splits the first two numbers in adjacent rows. Double street bets pay 5-to-1.

Column Bets – Instead of betting on the horizontal rows, you place a bet on the entire column of rows which actually has more numbers. This is a popular bet choice and offers a 2-to-1 payout.

Red/Black and Odd/Even – On the outside of the grid are four boxes that read “red”, “black”, “odd” and “even”. Placing a wager in any of these boxes allows you to bet on the next number satisfying any of these conditions. This is a frequent bet choice and pays 1-to-1 odds.
