The Tulane Green Wave battle the in-state rival Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns in 2018 Cure Bowl betting on Saturday, Dec. 15. Tulane’s located in New Orleans while the Ragin’ Cajuns are located in Lafayette, right in the middle of the state. This is a solid rivalry game with a tight line that should kick-off bowl season in a fun way.

Formerly called UL-Lafayette, Louisiana plays in the underrated Sun Belt Conference. Louisiana won the West Division and might have garnered a bid to the New Orleans Bowl if they had beaten Appalachian State in the conference championship. The Cure Bowl is a nice consolation prize for a team that’s made postseason bowl appearances 5 of other times since 2010.

Tulane was supposed to be one of the worst teams in the deep American Athletic Conference. Memphis, Fiesta Bowl participant Central Florida, Houston, South Florida, and Temple all play in the AAC. Even though the conference is considered part of the Football Bowl Series, it could only be a matter of time before it’s upgraded. That’s how talented and competitive the teams in the AAC have become.

Will the Green Wave use their valuable experience battling American Athletic Conference squads to take down the Ragin’ Cajuns? Or, will Louisiana do enough to pull off the upset in 2018 Cure Bowl betting? Let's find out!

2018 CURE BOWL FOOTBALL BETTING Tulane Green Wave vs Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Saturday, December 15th – Camping World Stadium – 1:30pm ET Odds: Tulane -3.5 (59)

Green Wave Hope to Cap Surprisingly Successful Season

Any time the Tulane Green Wave can garner a bowl bid, it’s a successful season. Although Tulane lost 6 games, they played well enough to get the nod to travel to Camping World Stadium in Orlando as the 2018 Cure Bowl betting favorite despite a rough record. The reason’s because 5 of their 6 losses were against good teams. Ohio State won the Big Ten, Alabama-Birmingham played in the Conference USA Championship, Wake Forest is an ACC squad while Cincinnati went 6-2 and Houston went 5-3 in the AAC.

Tulane upset Memphis early on in the season well before the Tigers lost to Central Florida in the AAC Championship. The Green Wave also  beat South Florida, Navy, and Tulsa this season. They deserve to be here and if the Ragin’ Cajuns don’t come with their best, the Green Wave could drown Louisiana on December 5.

Louisiana Looks to Continue Late Season Surge

The Ragin’ Cajuns went 3-1 ATS and 3-1 SU in their final 4 games. In their final game, they hung with highly-regarded Appalachian State in a 19-30 Sun Belt Championship loss. The Cajuns covered in that game because App State was favored by -13.

After the first month, it didn’t look like Louisiana had any shot at grabbing a bowl bid. The Ragin’ Cajuns started the season losing 3-of-4. The only win happened against Division II Grambling in Week 1.

The two losses to Mississippi State and Alabama are forgivable, but dropping a game straight up to Coastal Carolina at home was downright awful. Louisiana bounced out of the loss to win 6-of-9.

Some of the bigger wins were against rival UL-Monroe and against top Sun Belt rival Arkansas State. The Cajuns also beat New Mexico State and Georgia State, who went 6-2 in the Sun Belt Conference.

The late season surge should set up Louisiana against Tulane in the Cure Bowl. If the Ragin’ Cajuns can get things going early, they might have a shot at the straight up win.

2018 Cure Bowl Betting Analysis

Action hasn’t gone to either side in this game. One of the reasons for the lack of action’s because college bowl game handicappers aren’t familiar with either team. But, these are the type of bowl games where players can find value.

Based on trends, Louisiana should easily cover the spread. The Ragin’ Cajuns are 8-2 ATS in their last 10, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 bowl games, and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 following a straight up loss. Not only that, but Louisiana is 4-1 SU in their last 5 bowl games including beating Tulane 24-21 in the 2013 New Orleans Bowl. I like the Ragin’ Cajuns straight up. Louisiana can carry the momentum they gained in their final 4 games to win the Cure Bowl on Dec. 15 as a dog.
