The Braves built a 5-0 lead on Ron Acuna, Jr’s grand slam in the second inning and held on to beat the Dodgers 6-5 Sunday to fend off elimination in the best-of-5 division series. Atlanta used seven pitchers in Game 4 while the Dodgers went through five pitchers. The Braves cashed as a +140 underdog and are a small underdog again in Game 4 at SunTrust Park.
LOS ANGELES DODGERS AT ATLANTA BRAVES – Monday, Oct. 8
R. Hill (LAD) -145 / -1.5 (-110) / O 8
M. Foltynewicz (ATL) +135 / -1.5 (+130) / U 8 (-120)
Mike Foltynewicz starts Game 4 after struggling in Game 1. He lasted just 2 innings and 50 pitches and allowed 4 runs, 3 walks and 2 HRs as he struggled with his command.
Foltynewicz was the Braves top starter during the regular season, and manager Brian Snitker has confidence in his All-Star, who had career best 13 wins, 2.85 ERA and 202 strikeouts during the regular season.
Left hander Rich Hill will toe the rubber for Los Angeles, and he won 11 games and had 150 Ks in 132 innings this season. However, don’t expect the 38-year-old Hill to pitch more than 5 innings. He makes his playoff debut this season and all four of his playoff starts last year were at home. He lasted less than 5 innings three times and exactly 5 innings with the Dodgers winning all four of his playoff starts.
Foltynewicz will need to pitch to his regular season form in Game 4, but I prefer the Braves rather than laying the price on the road with Hill and the Dodgers.
