A talented field and a sloppy track did nothing to deter Orb from victory in the 1 ¼ mile classic at Churchill Downs May 4th.

Orb will meet some of his Derby challengers in The Preakness Stakes May 18th at Baltimore’s Pimlico racetrack as he attempts to win the $1,000,000 Grade 1 at 1 3/16 mile and secure the second leg of the coveted Triple Crown.

Normandy Invasion (fourth) was in the lead at the mile and Oxbow (sixth) was 2nd by ½ length, Itsmyluckyday (15th) and Goldencents (17th) have each earned triple digit figures in recent races, matching or exceeding Orb’s 104 in the Derby and most likely won’t encounter a sloppy track for The Preakness.

Mylute (fifth) and Will Take Charge (eighth) both made up some ground late and may improve off their Derby finishes.

Sunland Derby winner and track record setting Baffert colt Govenor Charlie, and the talented Vyjack, as well as recent Illinois Derby winner Departing, a War Front gelding with 4 wins from 5 starts, are all likely starters.
