Another Wednesday carryover at Del Mar, this time the pool will start at $255,708. The last time there was a Wednesday carryover we nabbed four winners in our discussion, so let’s try to do two better. First up is a $20,000 maiden claiming race for fillies and mares.

Scary Fast is the 5-2 morning line favorite with Calameera and Secret Memo right on her heels. Scary Fast was third in a similar race at Hollywood Park last month and will improve off of that effort. Secret Memo showed improved speed in her second start off the long layoff and another move forward would put her right there. Calameera ran a winning race last time, finishing in front of the third place filly by over three lengths. Spritzy is a debut runner for trainer Vann Belvoir, who has one win with seven first-time-starters in the past at Del Mar. If the runner is bet, 4-1 or less, than Spritzy is a must use.

Race four, a $10,000 claiming race isn’t easy, as the tepid call goes to Pawn Shop, who is going first-off-the-claim for trainer Genaro Vallejo. Vallejo has one win with eight starters at Del Mar, but picked up top rider Rafael Bejarano in the irons. In that Pleasanton race, Pawn Shop was not really allowed to run until the final furlong then just evened out. He may show improved speed from the rail. Others to consider are Lindz Winz, Bonita Star, Bas and Romantic Wish.

Tiz a Kiss did not earn a high speed figure in her last race, but is the morning line favorite for race five, a one-mile race for Cal-bred or sired maiden fillies and mares. Tiz a Kiss has worked well since her last start and is the filly to beat. Patriot C H will look to improve her stamina and is 8-1 on the morning line. She may be out winging early with Keldy while Coconut Cream Pie won’t be far behind. Sooner or later Coconut Cream Pie will catch a field she can beat.

Unbridled Giant drops in to a claiming race for the first time in his six start career, a move that has worked at Del Mar for trainer Bob Baffert before. The son of Giant’s Causeway is controlling speed and may be a single on many tickets. One reason for that is if it’s not Unbridled Giant, anyone can win.

If bettors don’t single Unbridled Giant, they may choose to single Distinctiv Passion in the Green Flash Stakes. The three-year-old colt is fast and will take a lot of catching. If Strong Wind and Wiredfortwotwenty make the favorite work early, look for Circa’sgoldengear, Sirocco Strike and Boat Trip late.

With two possible singles on the card, the plan for the last race is to spread. Frannie’sspirittoo, Janes Ship, Irish Winnie, Dolphin Shorts and Party Pus are the principles, but contention runs deep.

Still time to handicap and don’t forget to check the late scratches. Post time for race three on Wednesday at Del Mar is 6:09 pm ET.
