Bluffs Run's top dog, SH Avatar, will take off from the 2 box in the sixth race in the first round of the $60,000 Bluffs Run Open on Wednesday, July 10th. With 19 wins out of 30 races and the championship of the Team Survivor Stakes, Avatar is sure to be the favorite, with good reason.

Another champion, this one the Juvenile Champion, L Tootie, will be in the 5 box in the 7th race and is the morning line favorite.

96 greyhounds from all 15 kennels at the track will compete in the series. 40 out of the 96 entrants will be provided by just 3 kennels: Bartley and Boechenstedt will send a dozen each and Plum Creek will send 16.

The sprint stakes will be featured in 12 of tonight's 15 races and even includes two finalists from the 3/8ths mile Derby. Ten of the track's twelve top win leaders are included in the entrants.

Let's take a look at Race 6 with SH Avatar.

While SH Avatar certainly looks like the top dog in this race, there are a couple of other dogs who might give him a run for his purse money.

Slatex Nixon, in the 6 box, just won from the 7 box in 30.35 by 6 and a half lengths. A consistent A dog, he manages to hit the exacta over half the time and excels at closing.

Boc's King Loopy, in the 3 box, has a best time of 29.94 and another sub 30 second time back a few races. He's happiest in the 4 inside boxes and should be able to run where he wants from this position. On the rail, where he definitely wants to be, is GV Ted Turner at interesting odds of 10-1 in the morning line. Not the speediest of the bunch, but position can make up for some speed points and he hasn't had his best position for many races. He could just surprise in this one.

Hilco Kola, in the 5 box, has stayed in A with 4 exacta placings out of 6 races in that grade. Her times aren't the best, but she has determination and the morning line maker thought enough of her to make her 9-2.

WW's Super, in the 4 box, will need to show much more to get a piece of the purse and, barring a sudden reversal of form, I don't see that happening here.

Answer Keeper, in the 8 box, was the favorite in his last race when he was also in the 8 box. That might be because he prefers to be outside of the other dogs, as you can see by his comment lines. If he gets the break, he might be tough to catch.

Gable Blade, in the 7 box, also seems to prefer the outside posts and has a best time that equals Answer Keeper's. I expect him to be right behind the leaders, trying to close in the stretch.

After two rounds, 48 greyhounds will make the cut for the quarterfinals. In the next round, 24 will vie for a berth in the semifinals. The last cut will leave only eight finalists for the championship race on Saturday, July 27th.

As always, safe trips and good racing luck to all the greyhounds on tonight's card. Remember to watch and wager on Bluffs Run on Bet America where programs are free and Bluffs Run - and many other tracks - are bonus tracks which give you 3% cash back on all your wagers.
