Indiana Grand in Shelbyville, Indiana runs a mixed meet from April through October, but will host the third of their six All Quarter Horse cards this Saturday, August 1. There will be nine races, including four stakes and with full fields, the betting opportunities are outstanding!

Mavara Vegas was the fastest qualifier in trials for the $71,840 Indiana Grand QHRAI Derby, which will run as the sixth race of the night.  The daughter of Fdd Dynasty handled a sloppy track in her trial win. Others to watch include DeMille, a Corona Cartel colt who ran fourth in the South Florida Derby earlier this year at Hialeah and Texas-bred Fast Man Vic, who posted a career high speed figure in his trial effort.

The eighth race is the 400-yard $122,700 Blue River Derby and the morning-line favorite is Hand of Doom.  The grey son of To Be A Corona never started as a 2-year-old, but has been impressive in each of this three starts this year at Indiana Grand. He broke his maiden in trials for the $100,000 Harley Greene Derby and won the final of the 350-yard final on June 20. While he ran second to Beach Cartel in his trial for the Blue River Derby, his first start at 400 yards, don't count out this lightly raced son of To Be a Corona, who could win his second stakes of the meet.

Leading Indiana Grand Quarter Horse trainer, Randy Smith, will saddle three of the top ten qualifiers. Top jockey Juan Guerrero, qualified three for the final, but opted to ride Beach Cartel Saturday evening. He is a gelded son of the top Indiana sire, Escondido Beach, and drew post position two. Smith's other two runners, DNA Dales Quick Cat and Rock Crushin Dynasty, will be ridden by Giovani Vazquez-Gomez and Jose Ruiz, respectively.
