Plano, TX –United Greyhound Racing has partnered with BetAmerica and Daytona Beach Kennel Club to introduce the 2015 BetAmerica Daytona 550 Invitational Championship.

From the 2014 United Greyhound Racing Top 10 Poll and the UGR selection committee, the top 8 greyhounds in the United States will be invited to participate and determine the top greyhound of 2014. Fans and industry representatives will witness the crowning of a national champion on January 24, 2015 at the Daytona Beach Kennel Club and Poker Room.

Throughout the year, United Greyhound Racing has released their Top 25 poll recognizing the greyhound industry’s top racers throughout the country. The UGR Top 25 Poll utilizes two score components plus bonus points/adjustments in three other categories to give each greyhound a final point total or score. All points earned are weighted according to the Track Power Rating (TPR) designated by UGR. Our TPR serves the same purpose as the strength of schedule component used in the current college football BCS rankings. While the poll has generated debate amongst the greyhound community, it has created its share of national interest and discussion that otherwise did not exist.

“One thing that’s certainly missing from the greyhound industry is the crowing of a national champion,” stated UGR Founding Director Erik Koltz. “We’re very thankful that we have premier racing facility, Daytona Beach Kennel Club andPoker Room, and a title sponsor in BetAmerica that share our vision. UGR owes a bit of gratitude to one of their members, Michael Frino, who has made it his personal mission to get this race off the ground.” Fred Guzman, Director of Racing at Daytona Beach Kennel Club and Poker Room added, “Daytona Beach Kennel Club and Poker Room is honored to host the inaugural BetAmerica Daytona 550 Invitational Championship. We are delighted to partner with United Greyhound Racing to promote the great sport of greyhound racing and to promote and support greyhound adoption.”

“We are delighted to sponsor the first gathering of the country’s best greyhounds and we couldn’t be more excited to see who will wear the BetAmerica blanket and collar as National Champion! Greyhound racing is a core part of our business and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to work with a great track like Daytona Beach Kennel Club and Poker Room. As someone who comes from the Thoroughbred industry, the BetAmerica Daytona 550 Invitational will surely become the Breeders’ Cup Classic of the Greyhound world,” explains Molly Jo Rosen, Product Manager of Racing at BetAmerica.
