Big Daddy Stakes at Remington Park
Two-time AQHA world champion, SLM Big Daddy will be remembered Saturday night at Remington Park in a stakes bearing his name. The $50,000 SLM Big Daddy Stakes headlines the 11-race card, which gets underway at 6:00 pm.
The 550-yard stakes drew a solid field of ten, with Rocketair installed as the 3-1 choice. Jockey Ivan Carnero will ride for trainer Clinton Crawford. Mixed Fantasy, owned by JK Running Horses LLC, won the 2014 edition of the stakes, and has two wins at the distance. The handsome gray will break from the rail under Daniel Torres. Dashin For A Prize, a 5-year-old son of top Louisiana sire, Heza Fast Dash, ships to Oklahoma City off a third-place finish in the 400-yard, $350,000 Championship at Sunland Park (G1) in New Mexico on January 3. 2015 AQHA Champion jockey Ricky Ramirez has the mount.
Oklahoma-bred Painted Josy will be ridden by Raul Ramirez, Jr., who will make the trip to Bossier City on Sunday to ride favorites in both the Mardi Gras Futurity and Derby. Both features will run Sunday afternoon at Louisiana Downs, with their first post set for 1:00 pm (Central).
The live Remington Park Quarter Horse season will include a very lucrative stakes schedule. Next weekend's feature is the $420,000 Oklahoma Futurity, now in its 75th running as the oldest futurity in Quarter Horse racing.
