2016 champion Duponte reached national prominence following his victory at Louisiana Downs

This is an interesting race to watch as last year’s winner, Duponte, made a significant national impact. Bred by AQHA champion breeder, Bobby D. Cox, the son of American Runaway won the Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity at Louisiana Downs, shipped to Remington Park, where he won the $1.1 million Heritage Place Futurity (G1). Cox, who co-owned Duponte with the Paredes family, saw their charge compete in trials for the All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs and run second in the Dash for Cash Futurity (G2) at Lone Star Park.

Duponte was trained by Josue Ponce, who will have a finalist again this year. Hez Our Boy will break from post position nine, under rider Manuel Gutierrez.

The Louisiana circuit shifts to Delta Downs in Vinton on April 21.
