It’s no surprise that Paul Jones is, once again, leading the brigade. He has already won 14 races from 70 starters at Los Alamitos, and will add to it when Ruidoso Downs opens in May. Jones finished second in the 2016 AQHA trainer standings to Judd Kearl, who is pointing his horses to upcoming meets in Texas and Oklahoma.

2016 AQHA champion trainer Judd Kearl led the nation in wins and money earned

Louisiana-based Orlando Orozco has saddled 102 Quarter Horses this meet at Louisiana Downs and visited the winner’s circle 19 times. Orozco won the Evangeline Downs training title last December and has a comfortable lead over Carlos Saldivar, Kenneth Roberts and Lanny Keith heading into the final three weeks at Bossier City. Several major stakes are set for March at Louisiana Downs, including the Mardi Gras Derby and Futurity on March 18. The Louisiana circuit will shift to Delta Downs on April 21.

There will be many horsemen mentioned in this blog in the near future as Quarter Horse racing gears up in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and Indiana. One of the first major meets in the country is Remington Park, with opening day right around the corner on March 10.  AQHA 2016 champion trainer Judd Kearl will be prominent at Sam Houston Race Park when they switch to Quarter Horse racing on March 31.
