Due to the flooding in Shreveport, Louisiana and surrounding areas, officials at Louisiana Downs were forced to cancel live racing for the weekend of March 12.  Horsemen were asked to evacuate the backside on Thursday evening to ensure their safety.

Live racing set for Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday has been canceled and further updates will be provided on a potential rescheduled date for the  $273,054 Mardi Gras Futurity (RG2) and the $86,190 Mardi Gras Derby (G2). Both finals were to have been run on the Saturday afternoon card.

The 2016 Louisiana Downs Quarter Horse race meet was expected to run through March 23, with the final of the $263,00 Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity set for closing day.

Louisiana Quarter Horse racing moves to Delta Downs in Vinton, Louisiana on April 22.
