Modest rain does not dampen Rosecroft Tuesday card
Overcast, cool, rainy conditions prevailed throughout the day and evening on Tuesday, but numerous trotters and pacers seemed to thrive over the off going at Rosecroft Raceway in Maryland that evening.
In fact, in the opening race on the card Fashion Smile (Jonathan Roberts) led throughout to capture the $10,000 Open Handicap for trotters in 1:56.3. One week after winning a conditioned event handily, Fashion Smile jumped back into the Open and notched his sixth win in 26 starts this year for trainer Megan Roberts.
Then one race later on the card, Rebel Soldier (Frank Milby) gained command in a rapid opener, rebuffed one challenge before the half and another down the backside and then held safe Talbot Redneck to score in 1:54.2 in a non-winners of $5000 last five starts class
Owned, bred and trained by Steve Warrington of Sanabelle Island fame, Rebel Soldier notched his second win from seven starts this year and now owns a 12-4-6 slate $70,000 bankroll from 40 career outings.
Then just past the midway point of the 13-race card, I Wanna Go Fast (Milby) led throughout to capture the $12,500 Open 1 Handicap for older pacers in 1:53 as the 6-5 favorite. I Wanna Go Fast had won the Open 2 the week before and held safe Hi Sir (Russell Foster) and Hot Art (John Baxter) in a three-way thriller.
Then one race later on the card, McAttaboy led throughout to capture the other half of the non-winners of $5000 last five class in 1:54.3. One race later Stanhope rallied from far back to capture the Winners Over class in 1:53.1 over a fast closing Gold Deuce.
One race later Cabbie's Delight rallied from far back early to prevail in the $10,000 Open 2 in 1:53.4. He had earlier won the Open 1 at 25-1 six weeks earlier. Doubleshotascotch finished a solid second at 21-1.
Then in the finale, the 13th race proved lucky for the connections and backers of Code Meister who scored at 35-1 in 1:53.4 in a non-winners of $2500 last five class. The three-year-old son of Quik Pulse Mindale has won two straight and posted a much faster clocking than the other half of the same class held 20 minutes earlier.
