The feature at Monmouth is the Grade 3 Jersey Shore where a competitive field of 6, led by 50% winner Favorite Tale, will head to the post. Before that is a tough $20K turf event.

OC (20) for 3&up F&M going 5f (T)

5 – Magic Mesa – 5/2 – Trainer Diane Kobiskie wins 28% first off the claim and should have this six-year-old mare that has won 3 out of her last 4 ready to roll. Magic Mesa will grab the lead early and gets a sweet weight break going from jockey Trevor McCarthy to Cicely Evans. She’ll play catch me if you can. The bet is that nobody will.

10 – Bernadine – 9/2 – Edward Plesa Jr. is okay with his last out maiden winners and first on the grass types, 13% and 15% respectively, but the real reason to consider this $160K three-year-old to win is because she picks up Paco Lopez. Lopez has continued to be hot. He’s now won 101 races aboard 321 mounts. Paco will get her into the race early.

7 – Jesse Can Mambo – 3/1 – Her last wasn’t spectacular, but she takes a slight drop in class in this to a level where she won at two races back. The 5-4-3 record out of 24 lifetime races is decent enough and she does appear to bounce back from bad races quite well. Her odds figure to be much higher than the 3 to 1 morning line, making her somewhat playable.

G3 Jersey Shore for 3yo going 6f

1 – Prudhoe Bay – 3/1 – It looks like there is plenty of speed to set up this stalking three-year-old sired by Songandaprayer. Paco Lopez ends up aboard this guy instead of Wonderfella. He must have a feeling that the pace will be swift. If the rail opens up in the stretch, Paco might just sneak Prudhoe Bay through for a victory in this Grade 3.

5 – Favorite Tale – 9/5 – He’s lost by a neck in his last two races and could very well lose by a neck in this. There’s no question that he’s the fastest horse in the race, but Wonderfella has been training lights out with bullets in the morning, meaning that Favorite Tale will have company up front. If he hangs on, great; just don’t expect anything close to fair odds.

3 – Wonderfella – 4/1 – The works have been spectacular and because he moves up in class from optional claiming $20K, you have to figure that he’ll keep his odds. If Bisono decides to ease up on Favorite Tale in the early stages, Wonderfella could be long gone.
