Santa Anita Sunday, March 9, 2014 Race 1 Post Time 3:30 pm ET

Race 1: In a race that appears to have a lot of pace, MARY HELEN'S STORM may be the right horse to back in the opener. He is light on speed figures, but the race sets up for him and is worth a bet at odds. KEYBOARD COURAGE was a game winner last out and now drops way down in class. SENATOR BOB looks like the speed of the speed.

Race 2: BLUEGRASS FOX TROT has the looks of being a career maiden, but he gets the call in this one-mile maiden claimer. The gelding finished second in his last start, but was over six lengths clear of the third place finisher CLEARDOFALLCHARGES, who is also a contender here. PRINCE OF PARIS will try to lead them wire to wire under apprentice Drayden Van Dyke.

Race 3: A number of ways to go in this seven-horse field of Cal-bred fillies and mares so going to side with recent maiden winner SEA JOHN'S SPIRIT from the Ron Ellis barn. Ellis and jockey Joe Talamo teamed up to win a race on Saturday and can keep the momentum going today. SWEET BOSS makes her first start in nearly a year and looks good if ready to roll off the bench. Ellis also has QUINNETTE, who has won more races in her career, eight, than the other six entrants combined, seven.

Race 4: RAMBLING HOUSE just broke his maiden, was claimed by Tim Yakteen and now makes his first start around two turns and first start on turf. Normally all of those firsts don't translate to a win, but he may handle those in his first start against winners. HARNESS MENTALITY runs for a low percentage barn, but fits as does ALPHA BULLET, WARREN'S CLIFF S. and HANDSOME DENNIS. MAVERICKS GUN is a maiden that finished third in this class two back while SHEER TALENT goes first off-the-claim for trainer Mark Glatt.

Race 5: One more chance for JOE CARL, who has now lost his last 11 starts after winning 12 of his first 41. He has been competitive in those 11 starts and picks up a field with pace that flatters his late run. If he has one more win in his, today is the day and must be included on any exotic wager. GRAEME CRACKERJACK is another late runner, but may find the mile too short. MUCHOS BESOS looks like inside speed, but will have to outrun CHICSDIGTHESHARK, MENSA HEAT and FIT TO RULE, who all drew outside posts.
