I for one did not see THIS coming! In the second round of the Ironhound stakes, over the 330-yard course, the track record for the distance not only fell once, but twice. Both races took down the mark set just a couple of months ago, and we are talking about distance greyhounds here, not big time early speeders. Either way, newcomers posted up wins over the shorter distance and that left a mess at the top of the standings. The points are now spread out a bit, so round number 3 is going to be interesting to say the least. Congrats to Lee Trinity for breaking the track record, and for Jack’s Big Drama to break it again just 9 races later.

Race number 4 on the card was interesting to watch. The race was close from the start and at the finish, but in the middle, it looked like a runaway. Very strange for such a short race to have so many different possibilities, but that is just what happened. Lee Trinity broke with the leaders and took over early command of the race with others stalking right behind her. By the far turn she was ahead of the trouble behind and had stretched the lead to length and a half, but this race was far from over. Coming from last, yes last, at the break was Boc’s Queen Lady. Outrushing the rest down the backside, as she did her best Muhammad Ali impersonation, you know bobbing and weaving her way through traffic, she came out in second by the turn and was not going to just give in just yet. Down the stretch, it got very interesting as Queen Lady put the hammer down and came flying up to challenge. A photo had to separate them at the wire, but to Lad’s dismay, she was just a neck short on this occasion. Lee Trinity held on for the win as Lady gave a gallant effort in place. Early threat Dutch Reagan held on for third as Cbj Sooner ran an even trip in 4th. Completing the field was Sheezsohot in 5th, Jack’s Full Moon in 6th, first round winner Ww Blair in 7th, and Pat C Da Ta in 8th.

Not to be outdone, the 13th race on the card lowered the track record again, but this race was a lot less dramatic than the first. Bursting from the box, Jack’s Big Drama was way close early on and by the toteboard, this race was already over. Seizing early control, he dominated on the front end with every step he took down the backside, around the turn, and all the way up the stretch. His 17.90 second clocking at the wire was length better than Trinity’s of 17.96, and he was never challenged in the second half of this effort. Winning by 3.5 lengths, Jack’s Big Drama took home the 19 critical points and a chance to move on to the finals. Chasing the pace the entire way was Pat C Hartie. Clearly close and setting up shop, Hartie couldn’t gain on the leader, but managed to keep everyone at bay for another strong second place showing in a row. Boc’s Free Bee played traffic cop in the far turn and directed the others behind her to stay there as she moved in and out on the racetrack blocking their path. Down the stretch, she did come off the rail a bit and that allowed Mr Tito to come on home and take the final spot in the superfecta. Completing the field was the 770-track record holder, and blocked far turn runner Herstal in 5th, Fiesta Bonker in 6th, first round winner Trackinfo Rich in 7th, and Js Beer Pressure in 8th.
