Monday recap: suggested longshot Paradise Lost ran a very nice second at 58-1 at Dover ~ congrats to the players who hit it!

While there may be a chance of a modest winter snowstorm moving through the Mid-Atlantic region Tuesday evening, the card at Rosecroft Raceway could certainly provide a mild warm location for owners and fans as the best older pacers on the grounds will round out the program.

In the co-featured eighth race on the card, a $10,000 Maryland-land Open for older pacers, the talented and well-traveled Abelard Hanover (Frank Milby) will look to make a successful, rare appearance over the Fort Washington five-eighths mile oval for trainer Alvin Callahan. Abelard Hanover sports a stellar 14-3-4 slate, $244,000 bankroll and exceptional mark of 1:48 from 27 starts this year and looks statistically superior to his six rivals whose combined seasonal earnings are roughly $175,000.

But if Abelard Hanover is off his game, look for Shady Breeze (Bill Long) or Big Town Hero (Art Stafford, Jr.) to be in prime position for the upset. Shady Breeze has won five of 18 starts and nearly $30,000 this year for trainer Judith Welty and owns a solid seasonal mark of 1:49.4. Big Town Hero has consistently dominated the conditioned pacers at Rosecroft and is fresh off an emphatic, 10-length score in 1:50.4. Both Shady Breeze and Big Town Hero have enough gate speed to stay close to Abelard Hanover through the first seven-eighths of the one-mile event.

In the very next race on the card, a solid filly of distaffers will go postward in the $10,000 Maryland-owned Filly-Mare Open for pacing mares. Real Passing Lady comes into the race off a sharp, 1:53.1 in the top class last week for trainer-driver Brian Burton and Shaker Rei (John Gazzerro) is always a factor in this event although she tends to stay well off the pace early and look to unleash her stellar late kick. Ge's Alex (Justin Vincent) was a good second last week and looks poised for her best effort for trainer Gary Ewing of Ge's Romanero fame.

Then in the finale on the 12-race card, a low-level conditioned event for pacers, Cruzin Foralivin N (Corey Braden) may have found the right spot to post an upset for trainer Jeff Clark as the lone pacing mare in the field of aged pacers. Cruzin Foralivin N is no stranger to the winner's circle in some of the tougher classes for filly-mare pacers at Rosecroft, Dover Downs and Harrington and despite being the lone distaffer in the Tuesday finale she may possess enough speed, determination and back class to topple the boys.
