Weather is a Winner at Turf Paradise

 Turf Paradise, in sunny Arizona, is in the midst of its 61st annual racing season. From now through May 7, racing fans will be able to watch and wager on Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses. Residents and visitors to Phoenix, Arizona can also partake in a variety of promotions and festival days.

Both Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds are running at Turf Paradise



Turf Paradise’s Quarter Horse stakes schedule is once again led by the 300-yard, $70,000 Desert Classic Futurity on April 30. Other noteworthy Quarter Horse stakes include the 400-yard, $50,000 AQRA Turf Paradise Futurity on December 11, and the 350-yard, $45,000 AQRA President’s Spring Derby on April 8.  Also, three AQHA Bank of America Racing Challenge regional stakes are tentatively scheduled for April 30; the $55,000 Bank of America Turf Paradise Championship Challenge (G3); the $20,000 John Deere Turf Paradise Juvenile Challenge for 2-year-olds as well as the $15,000 AQHA Distance Challenge.

Matt Fales was the runaway leading trainer last year and is already in the lead in the standings this meet. He was born into a racing family as his parents, Ralph and Carrie Fales, own and operate Fales Ranch in  Coolidge, Arizona.  Fales began training in 2005 and has won 30 career stakes at Turf Paradise, Yavapai Downs and has been honored by the Arizona Quarter Racing Association as champion Quarter Horse trainer.  Turf Paradise jockeys to watch include Jorge Bourdieu, Martin Osuna and Vince Guerra.

Track announcer Robert Fox returned to Turf Paradise again this year. Fox is the longtime voice of  Ruidoso Downs during the summer months.
