Kentucky Derby 6 Through 10 in Point Standings

In my last blog I profiled the likely 2016 Kentucky Derby starters in point standings from 1 through 5. In this blog, I profile horses 6 through 10. Through these profiles I'm handicapping the Derby. From my perspective, there is plenty of information out there to get your handicapping done early. The Kentucky Derby is like no other race of the year in the sense that it's not only the hardest race in which to handicap, but it could also [...]

Derby Comp Shows Up for Mohaymen

It took a while but 2, actually 3, horses showed up this past weekend who could possibly challenge Mohaymen on the First Saturday in May. Kentucky Derby Future Wager Pool 3 was this past weekend. The final odds on Sunday had Mohaymen as a solid 7/2 choice. The two horses that really impressed over the weekend, Destin and Danzing Candy, are going off at 15 to 1 and 17 to 1 respectively. I suppose that those who made wagers in [...]

Kentucky Derby Will Miss One True Star

Were about 8 weeks out from the 2016 Kentucky Derby. Forgive me, but I'm just not all that excited about this year's Kentucky Derby as I have been in year's past. The reason why is because the absolute best three-year-old that I've seen run in years, that I've seen that's maybe better than American Pharoah, won't run in this year's Kentucky Derby. Jerry Hollendorfer has already stated that he won't run Songbird in the Kentucky Derby. Based on what I've [...]

Kentucky Derby Futures Pool 2

The field closed as the favorite in the Kentucky Derby Futures Pool 2 at 5/2. Horsplayers bet over $72,000 on the field in Pool 2. A close second choice is the Kiaran McLaughlin trained Mohaymen. If the pool hadn't closed until after the San Vicente this past Monday, Nyquist, last year's Breeders Cup Juvenile winner, might have fought Mohaymen for favoritism. Nyquist ended up at 7/1 and a solid third choice in the Kentucky Derby Futures Pool 2. Even with [...]
